The Materials We Work With

We work exclusively with 990 silver. Its softness allows the metal to respond closely to the hand, creating measured surfaces and gentle curves that retain subtle traces of the making process. Its high purity produces a calm, natural sheen that differs from standard sterling silver through its flexibility and its quieter reflection of light.

The material carries significance within Chinese traditions, including those of the Miao ethnic group, where silver is associated with protection and the idea of keeping good fortune close to the body. We work with the metal in this understanding, allowing both its behaviour and its symbolism to guide the form each piece takes.

Shaping, filing and controlled oxidation are carried out slowly to preserve depth and texture. High-purity silver marks easily, and some traces from the process remain when they contribute to the quiet honesty of the surface. This approach respects the nature of the material rather than imposing a uniform industrial finish.

990 silver is fully recyclable and can be reused without loss of quality. Producing our pieces in small quantities reduces waste and supports a thoughtful pace of making, allowing each object to hold its own clarity and intention.
